Project Overview
The Science Fair Leaderboard was built for “The Joy of Wisdom”, the 2026 science fair at Eternity Christian School International in Honduras. Judges grade each project in a Google Form, and the dashboard turns the answers into a self-running slideshow for a projector or TV, plus an awards ceremony to close the event.
What it shows
- Project leaderboard: ranked projects with search, paging that fits the screen, rank animations as scores change and a notification whenever a project is graded.
- Final results: the prize winners by tier.
- Project details: click any project for its description, students, score and the number of gradings.
- Awards ceremony: a full-screen slideshow of the winners that you advance by hand, with opening and thank-you slides and effects that grow with each prize.
- Home: the event graphic and the school branding.

How scoring works
A project’s score is the mean of its judges’ totals, counting only the latest grading from each judge. Every project receives only its highest prize: Outstanding at 95 or more, Excellent at 90 or more and Honorable Mention at 85 or more.
How it is built
Judges’ answers flow from the Google Form into a Google Sheet. One serverless function on Vercel reads the sheet through a service account and caches the result for 60 seconds, and a React single-page app polls it.
- Vite, React 19 and TypeScript, with Tailwind CSS v4 using the school’s colour palette.
- Scoring and ranking are pure functions with unit tests (Vitest and Testing Library).
- A demo mode uses invented gradings and a panel of controls, so the dashboard can be shown without any real data.
Privacy
The real sheet holds children’s names, so it is never committed to the repository. The public demo uses invented scores.
Try it
The demo opens the dashboard with invented scores.
